50’s Prime Time Cafe is a table service restaurant at Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World. It might be the most popular restaurant in Hollywood Studios. It was voted best Hollywood Studios restaurant by Disney fans. However, just like any restaurant it has it’s bad days. Moreover, I can only write about my experience. I ate here with my family. I have four kids and I can share what it was like to eat here with children.

Atmosphere

50’s Prime Time Cafe is decorated like mom’s kitchen from the 1950’s. Retro TV’s are placed throughout the restaurant. The TV plays black and white clips from 1955 TV shows.

The kids had lots of fun watching the TV shows. It was a much better experience than some of the other places we ate. Moreover, they stayed seated without bouncing around. Now I see the value of having something to distract them.

Another thing that helped distract them was the paper placemats. On the table there were paper placemats with activities. And crayons were also on the table. My kids had fun coloring them.

Service

We had a great experience with the service even before being seated. Two of my kids were asleep in the stroller at the time of our reservation. I told the hostess about it and she said I could bring the stroller in to the restaurant. It was very helpful. Also, I was surprised I managed to get it to the table. Since the tables seemed close to each other.

At 50’s Prime Time Cafe they treat you like family. The servers make sure you mind your table manners. They will also ask you to set the table. However, if you don’t feel like playing along, just let them know. I think the server could tell it was a stressful day so he wasn’t too demanding.

Food

The food is american cuisine themed as a home cooked meal. Therefore, the menu has entrees such as fried chicken, pot roast, and meat loaf. I’ve heard the pot roast is the dish to order.

However, I prefer fried chicken so that’s what I ordered. For my sides I picked mashed potatoes and corn. I was surprised by how small the portion of mashed potatoes was. But the amount of fried chicken was more than I could finish. It came with a chicken breast, drumstick, and thigh. And wow was that chicken breast big. I easily could have split the chicken with someone else.

I cook food at home all the time. I’ve tried many different recipes of fried chicken. Therefore, I know the difference between good and bad. I thought this fried chicken had good flavor. It was also juicy. I was very happy with my meal. I just wish it came with more mashed potatoes.

The kids had macaroni and cheese and chicken strips. They really enjoyed the food. I ordered a side dish of fruit salad for Alexandra. This I did not like. The fruit salad was honey dew and cantaloupe. It wasn’t ripe so it was hard and difficult to eat for my 18 month old. Next time I will ask what comes in the fruit salad because I’m sure it changes from time to time.

Tim ordered Mom’s Old Fashioned Pot Roast. He thought it was delicious and would order it again. We also ordered the Peanut Butter and Jelly Milk Shake. I shared it with Tim and we both thought it was good. It might sound weird but it definitely works. Next time, I want to try the strawberry shake, that’s my favorite.

Final thoughts

I really enjoyed the meal. I would eat here again. The service was great. They were friendly and didn’t mind me bringing the stroller in. They were very accommodating. The kids really enjoyed the restaurants atmosphere and food. I will definitely come back again.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get pictures of the food. Alexandra woke up right when the food came and she was not happy. Luckily, she did calm down and really enjoyed the macaroni and cheese.
