Family Weekend Trip – McCall Idaho
McCall Idaho is a beautiful small town located in the mountains. It is a favorite destination for locals. I went there many times as a child. My family loved to camp in the lush forest. McCall is a great place to be whether in summer or winter.
In wintertime McCall gets a bunch of snow and it lasts for months. Places to sled are easy to find. In addition, artists create beautiful snow sculptures around town. I plan to visit McCall this winter to see the magnificent sculptures and let the kids have fun in the snow.
Hotel
We stayed at the Third Street Inn located in downtown McCall. It’s the first time I’ve stayed at a hotel in McCall. I’ve always gone camping instead. I have a video and full review of the Third Street Inn.
The kids had a great time in the hotel pool, and hot tub. Zachary enjoyed the pool more than the lake that we went to the next day. Makes me think that we could just stay at a local hotel with a pool and that’s all they need for a fun vacation. It would be much cheaper. It doesn’t always take much to please children.
Dinner
We decided to eat pizza because that is the kids favorite food. Luckily, There was a pizza place right next to our hotel. Growler’s Pizza is where we ate. Staying at a hotel in downtown McCall made finding food easy. I enjoyed being able to walk to where we needed to go. Also, I have a full review of Growler’s Pizza.
At night Alexandra had a hard time staying asleep. She does better when she has her own room. This reminded me that we need to get a one bedroom hotel room next time. However, once she fell back asleep she was good the rest of the night.
Rotary Park
McCall has several parks around Payette Lake. The one closest to our hotel was Legacy Park. I thought it might be busier so, we went to Rotary Park about a mile away. Rotary Park also has play equipment. Turns out, it was a great idea because Alexandra was more interested in the slides than playing in the water. The park doesn’t have a very big beach area. But, since we were there around 11 a.m. it wasn’t too crowded yet. Also, Rotary Park does have restrooms. A very important thing when you have children.
The kids enjoyed playing in the water as well as making a sandcastle. Zachary was trying to protect the sandcastle from the tide. He kept digging a trench. The beach area may not have been a big area, but it was plenty of room for us.
We had lots of fun on our trip to McCall Idaho. The only thing that would have made it better was an extra day. I decided to stay one night at the hotel but I realized we should have stayed an extra night. I didn’t get a chance to explore the shops and drive around taking in the beautiful forest. But, at least there is next time.
