Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort

In this blog post I will be sharing my experience staying at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. I have to be honest, the main reason I chose this resort was the pool. Fuentes Del Morro is the name of the pool and it looked amazing. There’s a shipwreck kid play area for smaller kids. It just looked so fun. Anyway, I wanted to share what I thought of the resort in order to help guests decide if this is the right resort for them.

The Room

We stayed in a 5th sleeper preferred room in the Barbados section. We are a family of 6. However, we were able to stay in this room because our youngest was 18 months old. That’s important to know. The highest capacity rooms are for a party of 5. Although, if you are a family of 6 with a child younger than 3 that sleeps in a crib, you can stay in a 5th sleeper room.

I went with the preferred room because it was closer to Old Port Royale and the main pool. Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is very spread out and will require a lot of walking. For this reason, I thought it was worth paying more for a preferred room. After staying there, I know it was a good decision. The bus stop was close to our room which was very nice. It wasn’t a bad walk to go to Old Port Royale for food and other necessities.

Before our trip, I knew the resort had a recent refurbishment. However, when I walked in our room I wondered if it had been refurbished. The room still had carpet. All the other newly refurbished Disney resorts changed the carpet to laminate flooring. Turns out they kept the carpet at Caribbean Beach Resort when it was refurbished. The tub was also an older style and not changed. Which isn’t a problem. But I did notice plenty of outlets for charging phones and that was part of the refurbishment.

Also, the room was big enough for a pack and play. We requested a crib ahead of time and it was all set up when we arrived. I really appreciated that. The crib fit next to our bed. However, Alexandra needed her own space to better fall asleep. So, we moved it into the bathroom next to the sinks. There was enough space for it and there was a sliding door to close it off.

The pull-down bed is the perfect size for a child. However, I wasn’t expecting it to be so high above the ground. Luckily, my son didn’t fall off while sleeping.

Cleanliness

The room looked clean at first glance. But I did notice that the light switch in the bathroom had collected lots of dust in the cracks. In addition, I had to pull out the drawers to rescue a toy that fell behind the pull-down bed. Behind the drawer was a huge amount of accumulated dust. From that I realized they probably don’t do much deep cleaning.

Fuentes Del Morro Pool

The main pool is themed to a colonial Spanish fortress. The Fuentes Del Morro Pool looked like so much fun. I wanted to make sure we swam in it at least once. Honestly, I wish we had a resort day to enjoy it again. I love the theme. There are cannons that spray water. Also, the pool has 2 water slides.

The kids play area is a shipwreck with a few smaller slides. Moreover, a bucket fills up until it tips over. My three year old was a little weary of it. Also, you have to be under 48 inches to play at the shipwreck.

Another thing I really liked was the life jackets. On the pool deck was a big rack full of different sizes. The life jackets are free to use. This is a really great option for kids who aren’t expert swimmers.

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort also has 5 other pools. There’s one in each village. Therefore, you won’t have to walk far to find a swimming pool.

Old Port Royale

Old Port Royale is where you will check in when you get to the resort. This is where you will find the Centertown Market and a store. The store has all the essentials you might need. Something I forgot to bring was dish soap for cleaning water bottles. The store had that, as well as ibuprofen and whole milk. My son had a fever in the morning after we arrived. I wasn’t expecting to need ibuprofen but I’m glad they had it.

Centertown Market has plenty of options. The night we arrived we decided to eat there and the portions were big. I ordered the Jerk seasoned Chicken. It was good, the chicken had plenty of flavor and the amount of rice and beans was big. I couldn’t eat it all. We also ordered pizza and chicken strips for the kids. They enjoyed their food. However, we had lots of food left over. Next time I will make sure to have them share entrees.

Centertown Market also has a grab and go section. It was smaller than I was expecting. But I used the grab and go section for a quick breakfast. They have pastries, muffins, yogurt, and drinks like chocolate milk just to name a few items.

The table service restaurant is Sebastian’s Bistro. It serves Caribbean inspired dishes. The restaurant has great reviews. I wish we had tried it out. I’ve heard it’s worth it even if you aren’t staying at Disney’s Caribbean Beach resort.

Transportation

One of the other reasons I wanted to stay at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort was the skyliner. The skyliner was added as an alternate mode of transportation in September 2019. The central hub is located at this resort. The Skyliner goes to Hollywood Studios and Epcot.

We had fun taking the skyliner. It’s like a ride in and of itself. As a family of 6 we always had one to ourselves. Also, important to know, If you have a double stroller it will have to be folded before getting on it. However, a single stroller can be rolled on without folding it up.

Bus is the other mode of transportation. The resort has 6 bus stops. Depending on which village you are staying at depends on how long it could take to get to the parks. We had a bus stop right outside our building. We always left in the morning and never found it to be full. In addition, we only stopped at one other bus stop before heading to the parks. For this reason I recommend a preferred room.

Final thoughts

One of the biggest complaints about Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort is how big it is. It requires a lot of walking to get around. However, since I was in a preferred room, I had no issue with this. The farthest walk was to the skyliner but that still wasn’t bad. The bus stop was really close, as well as the pool and restaurants. I highly recommend a preferred room. It does cost more but I think it’s worth it.
